Makunduchi Village Tour – Experience the Real Zanzibar

A special highlight of this tour is the Mwaka Kogwa Festival, a traditional Shirazi New Year celebration unique to Makunduchi village. Mwaka Kogwa usually starts in late July or early August, depending on the traditional lunar calendar. It is one of Zanzibar’s most important cultural events.

During the festival, visitors can witness symbolic rituals such as mock stick fights, which represent the release of past conflicts and negative energy from the old year. The celebrations continue with singing, dancing, traditional food, and joyful community gatherings, ending with prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in the new year.

Outside the festival period, the Makunduchi Village Tour still provides rich cultural insight, including visits to local homes, explanations of traditional customs, and interaction with friendly villagers.

• Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the tour or transfer date are eligible for a full refund.
• Cancellations made 24–48 hours before the service will receive a 50% refund.
• Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the service, or no-shows, are non-refundable.

• A 20% deposit is required to confirm your tour booking. The remaining 80% balance can be paid in cash at your hotel one day after arrival.
• I will personally meet you at the hotel reception to give a short briefing about our tours.
• After the briefing, you can pay the remaining balance in full, and I will write a receipt for your booking.
• If you prefer to pay by credit card, a 5% transaction fee will apply
